The iTunes App store has officially hit the 1.5 billion download mark according to Apple. The App store which recently celebrated it’s first birthday on Friday currently offers over 65,000 apps in 77 countries. The App store has dominated over it’s new competition from RIM, Android, and Nokia (OVI), due to the 40 million iPhones and Touch’s sold so far.  Apple CEO Steve Jobs said “The App Store is like nothing the industry has ever seen before in both scale and quality, with 1.5 billion apps downloaded, it is going to be very hard for others to catch up.” Apple calculates the rate of Apps sold to be somewhere around 50 apps per second which is just astonishing. The team over at Microsoft better be studying hard as their Windows marketplace is set to launch in Q4 this year…good luck guys.
