A recent study from the NPD Group finds 25% of iPad purchases were made by first-time Apple owners. Ben Arnold, director of industry analysis at NPD states “iPad sales are growing much faster than any other Apple product has this soon after launch”. The survey from NPD looked at 3,000 consumers in February of this year. Mr. Arnold also states “In fact, one-in-five Apple owner households has one— nearly equivalent to the number that own an Apple computer. This demonstrates the appeal of both the new form factor and Apple’s app ecosystem.” A third of all American homes, or 37 million, were estimated to have at least one Apple device. In years past 70 percent of Apple owners began their relationship with the brand by way of the iPod, this number has dropped to just 57 percent in the past two years. The iPad and the iPhone are now the 2 big products which really grab consumer into Apple’s attractive Eco-system of both hardware and software.

– Apple households own an average of 2.4 devices made by the company.
– About 58% of households with a Mac also own a PC.
– Almost 30% of homes with Apple products don’t own an iPhone.
